OPEN Tuesday-Friday from 4pm until late
Saturday from 6pm until late

Whatever your taste, tonic is certainly a refreshing change for the better...

The temptations of such a carefully composed wine list are difficult to resist. But the award winning locally brewed Emerson's, on tap in all its affable personalities, also offers great rewards for the beer lover. Special releases direct from the brewery, such as Brewers Reserves and seasonal release beers, make for tasteful events in every sense.

Another sensational highlight is settling in for a responsibly guided journey through the seriously impressive range of craft brewery beers – each selected as an outstanding example of a local, regional or national brew. The odd international beer is even admitted (if it measures up to local high standards).

Metres from central Dunedin's bustling Octagon, yet far enough from the madding crowd to be a haven of independent flavours and ambience – tonic is the perfect space for exploration and conversation, at any stage of your evening.

As a special bonus, join the Society of Beer Advocates (SOBA), and receive $1 off your pint of tap beer with your SOBA card.

Here's an account of the drinks we generally prefer to stock – but we always make a point of carefully hand selecting the finest wines, beers and spirits from the available market range. As a result, the odd individual drink on our list may vary without notice.

Epic Armageddon IPA 6.66%
In the beginning, there was nothing. Then an impish brewer piled a ludicrous amount of hops into a batch of beer. This zymurgical big bang is Epic Armageddon, an apocalyptic assault on your preconceptions and taste buds. It may be too huge for this fragile planet so enjoy this beer like it was the last one on Earth.

Epic Cryonman IPA 6.9%
we slammed the new US trial variety hop (still to be named commercially) HBC 682. This is one of the highest alpha hops in the world coming in at 20.4% alpha acid. We kind of went over the top with using it in the whirlpool, and also dry hopping, but it has really exploded the aroma and flavour of this beer. Huge fresh resinous pine, and tropical fruits like pineapple, and mango. This beer screams big green resiny hops while standing on a sold stage of ultra pale malt.

Behemoth Brave Bikkie brown ale 6%
Coconut aroma dominates with some residual chocolate/roasted malt notes. Pours a gorgeous deep brown with good head. Good bitterness at the start which gives way to full on toasted coconut finish.

Croucher Crank'nGrind Coffee Stout 5%
An easy drinking Coffee Stout with 10kgs of our own freshly hand-roasted coffee beans this easy drinking coffee infused stout is just the kick you need for the Winter weather to get you going. Croucher Brewing is one of the few breweries in the world with there own commercial coffee roaster. Beer AND Coffee... life could be worse!

Emerson's Pilsner 5%
A ‘Kiwi Classic’, Pilsner is a showcase for Nelson grown Riwaka hops. Its overt fruitiness begs comparison with Marlborough’s world-beating Sauvignon Blancs. Emerson’s Pilsner oozes citrus and passionfruit aromas and flavours. The beer’s palate shows a hint of early malt sweetness but develops a lengthy dry finish.

Emerson's Bookbinder 3.7%
A wonderfully drinkable interpretation of a classic English ale. Bookbinder is a blend of four malts combined with two classic Nelson grown European hops (Fuggles and Riwaka). The beer pours an attractive reddish brown, with a cream coloured head. Bookbinder has a sweet, perfumey, malt and hop aroma with a soft, malty, fruit and vinous palate that is both full flavoured and refreshing with a long, gently drying finish.
