Whatever your taste, tonic is certainly a refreshing change for the better...
The temptations of such a carefully composed wine list are difficult to resist. But the award winning locally brewed Emerson's, on tap in all its affable personalities, also offers great rewards for the beer lover. Special releases direct from the brewery, such as Brewers Reserves and seasonal release beers, make for tasteful events in every sense.
Another sensational highlight is settling in for a responsibly guided journey through the seriously impressive range of craft / micro brewery beers – each selected as an outstanding example of a local, regional or national brew. The odd International beer is even admitted (if it measures up to local high standards).
Metres from central Dunedin's bustling Octagon, yet far enough from the madding crowd to be a haven of independent flavours and ambiance – tonic is the perfect space for exploration and conversation, at any stage of your evening.
As a special bonus, join the Society of Beer Advocates (SOBA), and receive $1 off your pint of tap beer with your SOBA card.

BREWERS RESERVE:
Limited edition, specialty crafted beers.
Emerson's 'ROD' Flanders Style Ale
A couple of months ago our youngest brewer on the brew crew asked to brew a 'session' Belgian ale. Now... what could possibly go wrong? Well, he proved that he's learnt a few tricks and has put us old boys on notice – Brendan brewed a scorcher of an ale. It was so good we had to include it in our Brewer's Reserve range to showcase his effort.
"Belgian ales are the most sociable of brews for an evening with friends, one is never enough. No extremes of sourness, sweetness or bitterness, not bland though. A beer with enough flavour to demand another glass. A regular local beer for everyday drinking – a Belgian classic" *
And that says it all – 'Rod' has a beautiful classic Belgian aroma, estery, and spicy, suggesting high alcohol like its bigger cousins. Yet at only 5.2% alc this beer still satisfies with its full rounded malt flavour and clean finish demanding another pint. In fact we think it will be easy to lose an afternoon with 'Rod' – and why the heck not.
And for the Simpsons fans out there we just might let Brendan loose one day on another Belgian ale, anyone for a brother ale maybe? Bring on 'Todd'!

SEASONAL RELEASES:
Emerson's Taieri George
This exquisite spiced ale, released annually and brewed with the addition of three spices and organic clover honey from Central Otago is bottle-conditioned prior to release on March 6th every year. Cinnamon and nutmeg notes are evident in the aroma and on the palette with the combination of spices evoking flavours reminiscent of hot-cross buns. Available in 500ml bottles, limited availability.
6.8% ABV
Emerson's Weizenbock
A Bavarian cloudy Weiss or Wheat beer brewed to bock strength. The overall impression is a beer that is strong and malty, rich, full bodied and warming. Flavours of chocolate, Christmas cake, raisins, dark fruits and even a hint of Easter spices and clove characters.
8% ABV
Here's an account of the drinks we generally prefer to stock – but we always make a point of carefully hand selecting the finest wines, beers and spirits from the available market range. As a result, the odd individual drink on our list may vary without notice.
ON TAP:
Tuatara Conehead Green Hopped IPA - 5.5%
Brewed with new season Riwaka and Motueka cones hops and shed load of freshly picked whole Green Nelson Sauvin hops in the hopback.
Tuatara Ardennes - 6.5%
"Tuatara Ardennes is a strong, Belgian-style ale. There's no missing the strong bit – 6.5% alc/vol should be fairly self-explanatory – but the Belgian half of the equation is the result of Carl's obsession with the style. In creating his own version he's named it after the Ardennes yeast that gives it all those spicy orange notes. He was also fairly obsessed with making it drinkable, so drinkable in fact that we may have to redirect your attention to the 6.5% alc/vol bit. Don't get carried away now." - Tuatara Brewing
Three Boys Oyster Stout - 6.5%
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the bedroom...
Emerson's Pilsner - 4.9%
A "Kiwi Classic", Pilsner is a showcase for Nelson grown Riwaka hops, oozing citrus and passionfruit aromas and flavours before a long dry finish. Delicious.
Emerson's Bookbinder - 3.7%
A wonderfully drinkable interpretation of a classic English ale. "Booky" is a delicious blend of four malts and two classic Nelson grown hops.
A great session ale.
Emerson's Brewer's Reserve: 'ROD' Flanders Style Ale - 5.2%
'Rod' has a beautiful classic Belgian aroma, estery, and spicy, suggesting high alcohol like its bigger cousins. Yet at only 5.2% alc this beer still satisfies with its full rounded malt flavour and clean finish demanding another pint.
